Dearest Calvin,

To-day I have been attending the Missionary Meeting of the Anglican ladies, who wanted me to bring greetings. It was quite an interesting meeting but the day was very warm as it was yesterday. Last night we had quite a thunderstorm you can almost see the things grow, Edna's row of hepaticas under the hedge are all out and we have quite a display of scillas in the heart, the violets are just lovely and the daffodils beginning and the grass needs cutting.

We engaged a married woman to-day to come in Friday, she seems a decent woman but I am much afraid she will not be much of a cook, but we cannot hear of anyone at all. Alice went home on Saturday and felt very bad about leaving. She was very trying sometimes but was very good in many ways. Edna would be very happy to send you Luther's Life for a birth-day but first of all must know if you have a decent pair of gloves as last year she had to see to you and supply your wants.

As to the housecleaning, it would be well to change the downstairs carpets and perhaps the one in their bed-room. I do not know as to yours. The dining-room curtains would need to be done, but as they will shrink, the deep turn-down at top must be let out. If Mrs. Hughes offers and feels able to do the lace curtains in the other rooms, you had better let her do them. If Edna keeps as well as she is now, we shall not need to go any place in June, and the James have written about Chippawa. Mary proposes to go for two weeks and then Lillie in June, so E. does not want to go there. We'll hope that June does not prove a hot month. So just keep to your plans for July. Have you any idea at all where to go in Quebec or near Montreal. I would like so much to give the girls a good outing which they would enjoy but have no idea where to send them. Next year, if we are spared and Edna keeps on improving as she is, we must start early to arrange to go across the Atlantic, and really have something to show for our money, as I always felt about our Western trip. Perhaps you will be able to go too.

Edna has just returned from prayer-meeting. Think of that it seems too good to last. Well, I must close. Sent you moth-brushes yesterday. You sent too much money for one. Alice Hope is to be married end of next month, that means a present for us. Howard Duffield is the young man. With much love.
