Box 12-759 TO MARY BALDWIN MCQUESTEN from her mother Mary Baker McQuesten
Jan 25 1908 Monday Evening [approximate date]1
To: Mary McQuesten
From: 'Whitehern'

Dearest Mary,

Very glad to receive your letter this morning and know you are all getting on so well. As to the dress, I have to confess that for fear we should lose the dress I had bought it; we had searched Toronto and here and found it so difficult to get a good colour, that H. & I thought we had better take it; your sample was very good for the money but it was not such a good colour at night and is narrower than ours, so I will pay the extra, as you should be up to your own buying. We are getting on as well as we can with the various rooms. Had a very smart man for cleaning on Saturday, but he disappointed us in coming today.

As Tom is waiting cannot write more. Am truly thankful for those fine days and that you are enjoying yourself a little. Wondering how you got through yesterday. With much love.

Your mother

[M.B. McQuesten]

1 Approximate date was made by reference to "getting on as well as we can with the various rooms" which suggests the period of cleaning and renovations after the Hamilton Club's rental of "Whitehern" in 1907.
