IN THE MATTER OF Lots 126-127-128 and 129 on west side of MacNab Street between Hunter and Bold Streets in P.H. Hamilton's Survey. MacNab St. Presbyterian Church and Manse property and mortgage for $3000 thereon to Annie Nicholson.
I, Angus Sutherland, of the City of Hamilton, in the County of Wentworth, Esquire DO SOLEMNLY DECLARE that the following is an extract from the minute Book of the MacNab Street Presbyterian Church Congregation, viz.,
"At Hamilton the 8th day February 1887 and within the School-house of the MacNab Street Presbyterian Church there, the which day the Congregation of said Church duly called by previous intimations from the pulpit met and was opened with devotional exercises by the Revd. D.H. Fletcher and duly constituted.
Moved by Mr. T.B. [Thomas Baker] McQuesten. 1 Seconded by Mr. John Y. Osborne, That the Board of Management be and are hereby authorized if in their opinion the financial condition of the Congregation warrants it, to take all necessary steps to proceed by the 1st of June next with alterations and repairs to the inside of the Church building, such alterations and repairs to extend if decided on by the Board to the re-arrangement of the seats in the body of the Church the upholstering of them and those in the Gallery, changing the front of the Gallery, pointing walls [sic], ceiling and woodwork or such other improvements as maybe deemed advisable, carpeting and such other improvements as may be incidentally necessary and for such purpose that the Trustees be and are hereby authorized to borrow by way of mortgage on the real estate of the MacNab Street Presbyterian Church other than that upon which the Church building proper stands, and upon such terms and conditions as they may deem advisable, a sum of money not exceeding $3000.00 and the said Trustees are hereby authorized and empowered to enter into, give and execute, a mortgage for such purpose.

AND I made this solemn declaration conscientiously believing the same to be true and by virtue of the "Act Respecting Judicial Oaths."

1 This is likely incorrect since Thomas B. McQuesten was only 5 years old in 1887. It may be referring to Rev. Thomas Baker who was Mary Baker McQuesten's father, and Thomas's grandfather. Although Rev. Baker died in March of 1887, the written text at the beginning of the document is dated Feb. 8, 1887. We will search the original and make a correction ASAP. |
