My dear Tom

The family have requested me to write and congratulate you on passing your exams. Mama was very relieved for I think she had a secret doubt as to the result. I wasn't afraid as you'd always passed before.

Last Friday night was our Sunday School festival. And in the evening the children performed, there being no less than thirty nine selections. One little Scotch girl gave a recitation in such broad Scotch that hardly anyone understood. But it was applauded vigorously. One of the little Ballantyne girls gave a song that sounded like the Star theatre. It received hearty applause, particularly by young Louie Stuart who seemed in his element.

Mama is up at Miss Parke's as Robert Parke was reported to be very ill.

Last week I had a cold like nearly every person had, but am all right now. I hope neither of you get one. Mama said last night she didn't know what we'd do without hot stones. She is going to Jarvis to-morrow morning. So I hope she will not be frozen.

This afternoon we are going to call on the Proctors as I haven't been to see Nellie since I got home.

When I was down at Mrs. Mullins' Archie was raving at the way he is kept working till all hours. He says he only pays seven cents for his lunch at the Bank. They get soup and meat and dessert besides tea or coffee.

There isn't much to tell as it is too cold to go out more than is necessary.

The next letter I write will be to Cal but I cant [sic] say when.
