[This letter was sent c/o Dr. C. McQuesten.]W-MCP5-6.318 TO ESTIMATE RUTH ESTHER (ESTY) [BALDWIN] MCQUESTEN from her friend Elizabeth Nale
Jun 30 1846
To: Estimate Ruth Esther Baldwin McQuesten, Hamilton, Canada West,
From: Rochester, New York, [U.S.A.]
My dear Mrs. McQuesten,
I feel as if I could thank you a thousand times for your very kind letter and cordial invitation and had I consulted inclination alone at the commencement of my vacation I should have gone immediately to Hamilton. But fortunately for you I want to visit the Falls this summer and by remaining here until the middle of August I can do so with a pleasant party of friends from Albany. We purpose leaving Rochester the 14th of next month and staying a day or two at the Falls and then I intend to go into Canada.
I do indeed anticipate a delightful time in my visit to you my dear friend--for I fancy your home a perfect Eden--and Hamilton a very pleasant place from descriptions heard--and other specimens of agreeable people seen from there.
I have wished for a long time to visit Canada--and feel that I am very fortunate in having in view something more gratifying than a mere sight of the country. But hoping to see you soon face to face, when we can communicate by word of mouth, I will close.
Very affectionately yours,
