NIAGARA FALLS BRIDGE COMMISSIONRAINBOW BRIDGE NIAGARA FALLS September 7,1945 For certain reasons1 I have found it necessary to lock the outer doors on the first floor of the Tower Building. I have ordered a Master Key to control all of the doors on the lower floor for each Commissioner and in the meantime until the keys are made I have left a key with the Canadian Toll Collectors for your convenience. 1 The phrase: "certain reasons" in this letter is likely referring to the Carillon controversy in which T.B. had refused to alter the inscription on the giant bell to remove Churchill's name and substitute Mackenzie King's name. This defiance caused the Govt. to demand the resignation of T.B. McQuesten from the Commission effective on June 17, 1947. This letter indicates that C.E. Kaumeyer was in agreement with McQuesten. See Box 14-122. |
