Religion is a prize which few will accept. It is the mother of everyone, and altho' it is abstruse to many yet there is a faint hope that we may yet possess that blessing.

When we contemplate the ignorance and barbarity in which some nations are enveloped; and their deference to false idols, they appear deleterious to us, and we generally erase them from our memory. In many parts of the world people endure some of the most excruciating torments, and will animadvert on those who will not suffer equally. What is their Religion in analogy with that of our country's, we assemble regularly to worship the true and only god, and instead of suffering hardships on that blessed day, we have the gospel preached unto us [sic].

How delectable is the thought of meeting our friends after we leave this world of trouble, to enter one free from sorrow and pain; but if we have lived by incorrect principles it is impossible.

It is religion that soothes the pillow of disease; and closes the dim eyes on this world, and opens them to a brighter prospect.

We have churches established throughout Christendom, for the use of all denominations of Christians. Then let us characterize on our mind Religion, and think, without it "No one shall enter into the kingdom of Heaven." May we be convivial and benign towards each other, loving our neighbours as ourselves, so that at the last day, we may meet in mansions of everlasting Bliss.
