Notice to Quit Premises:2

To Mr. James Alfred Baker, Cold Springs, County of Brant, C. W.

Sir:

You being in pofsefsion [sic] of the Farm Cold Springs, with the house, lands, premises, and appurtinances [sic], situate in the township of Brantford and Dumfries, County of Brant, C.W., which was leased the first day of April 1857, which said term expired and terminated the first day of April of the present year, 1864. I do hereby give you notice to quit, and deliver up pofsefsion of the same on the first day of April next, 1865.

Witnefs [sic] my hand this fifteenth day of September, 1864, at Newmarket, County of York, C.W.

Brantford 20 Sept. 1864
James Alfred Baker was personaly [sic] served by me, with a true copy of the written notice, on this the above date.

1 This is likely in the census district Wentworth South and Brant, which contains both Brantford E. and Dumfries S.


2 Alfred had requested to remain at Cold Springs but was denied, apparently because of his debts to his father, who wrote "I cannot indulge the lest expectation that you will succeed upon [the farm]." However, Rev. Baker agreed to let his son stay until April 1, 1865 to harvest that year's crop. See W2960.
