Dear Sir,

Herewith you will receive the sum of one hundred & ten dollars [??] on account of Mr. [?] the mortgage [?] sale by which [???] $221. The [???]. Please send me a receipt for the money stating for what purpose it is paid, but do not endorse it on the mortgage as I want to [??] in your [??] this mortgage.

Papa [??] & desires in with kind regards. So you Mr. Baker & Mary who I respect is still enjoying [???].

July 30th, 1870

Dear Miss Smith,

Yours of the 28th, containing $110, I received this morning, and I enclose you a receipt for the same, please send me at your earliest convenience the money.

As you do not wish me to endorse the sums paid or the deed, be so kind when you said me the remaining $111 to state or you would send me to put on it so that it may be legally yours.
With my kind regards to you, and your family.
