Dear Grand Father I feel that I ought to write and thank you for your presents as well as your kind letter. I received it on Christmas Eve and was very much pleased with its contents. I hope you are well father has got a little daughter born on Sunday last. You wished to no wether I had a bible I have not a bible but two testaments I was allso [sic] very much pleased with the book you sent me I have read the most of it I felt very much start at cleaning my home. My Uncle desired me to say that the steam ship that which mend sailed in reached London on the last day of the old year but he has not heard from her yet when he dose he will write he was here to acknowledge your last letter to him, and we all join in was before a mery [sic] new year.

I had a few holiday in part of which I employed helping Uncle to get word from the [swamfs??] liked it very much because she lets me drive so good bye with love to all.

P.S. I will go today to bring our uncle here for a temporary home. If we can then await events. This is the 4th attempt to write these few lines J.P. “He could write much better if he would only apply himself.”
