ADMIRALTY, S.W.
24 November 1869
SIR,
Having laid before my Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty your letter of the 8th Instant requesting permission to remain in Canada.
I am commanded to acquaint you, that their Lordships are pleased to grant you 3 years further leave of absence from the date hereof under the following restrictions:-
That you do not enter into the service of any Foreign Prince or State.
That if, while absent, you go to any other place than the above-mentioned, you immediately inform their Lordship's Secretary thereof.
That if you do not return to ENGLAND within two months after being thereunto required by Public Notice in the LONDON GAZETTE, you forfeit all the Half-pay that may be due to you.
That should you have occasion to continue longer abroad than the time for which leave is hereby granted to you, you apply in due time to their Lordships (stating the date of your last letter of leave) for a renewal of it, as no Half-pay can be issued for any period during which an Officer is abroad, unless his absence for the said period be sanctioned by a letter of leave.
And that, when you return to England you are to give immediate information thereof to their Lordship's Secretary, or your Half-Pay will be stopped at the expiration of your leave.
I am, Sir
Your very humble Servant.
