My dearest Calvin,

It was most encouraging to hear that your work was being appreciated and I feel truly thankful for I am sure you have worked hard.¹ As to your trip, that must not be given up and at the beginning of August I will give you $10.00 towards it, for you know it is absolutely necessary that you have fresh air and recreation, that you may be fitted for your work. As to the place, will see Mr. Murray about Port Carling, he always favours it and stays at a quiet place, so will find out later. It seems a pity to go to same place again, except that you know the Blacks. Have no news, it is very warm and I am anything but brilliant. Will $10.00 be sufficient? You know I said I would help pay for books. Hope my present reached all right; have heard nothing. With much love.
