My dear Cal,

Just a few lines. So relieved to hear you had a comfortable seat & could rest on your way down. We are just resting, till I scarcely know what I am doing. Yesterday we all took dinner at one o'clock with dear Mrs. Thomson which was a fine relief for the girls. Isn't she a dear kind friend? Last night we had Edna's party which was a brilliant success. Tom excelled himself as an entertainer, singing songs which were most amusing and kept the whole thing going in a way which rejoiced my heart. He was feeling in specially good form, after his excellent dinner at Mrs. T.'s and in the evening was taken down to eat dinner at the Waldorf with the Varsity Athletic Club who were giving a show at the Drill Shed, amongst them Dan Urquhart, who came to call, but only Mary & Hilda saw him, for R.[Ruby] & I had not returned from Mrs. T.'s, was very sorry to miss him. We also missed Mrs. Byne, who came in to see us, as they were not able to accept our invitation for tea to-night. H. & M.[Mary] liked Dan so much, & I was so sorry to miss him. Isn't this a great thing of McDonald going in as Editor of Globe? A great loss to our Presbyterian paper. Had a letter from Mrs. MacKay enclosing P.O order for tea. She is feeling very poorly, evidently most despondent & worn out. Mrs. T. was so sorry not to see you again. I am hurrying with work bag for Janie James. So you must just excuse this brief letter, but thought you'd like to hear to-morrow. With much love dear dear boy.
