Many Happy Returns of the Day!!!

It came to me suddenly late last night that unless I wrote you a line to-day it would reach you too late.

The Spring has come and the winter is past. That will be your motto for the year old boy. Surely when one's birthday comes on May Day, it can have no other meaning. And the air is balmy and lovely to-day. Good times are surely coming.

It must be horrid to be a fat satisfied mortal who has known nothing but spring & summer and now has all the chilly fall & winter to go through. It is certainly much nicer to have things in their right order.

Ted [Edna] & I wish we could give you a good hug and wish you all sorts of good things by mighty whacks on the back.¹ We haven't even a present to send you--you'll have to think of the little letter rack as one.

We're sorry too we can't eat some of your Birthday cake and keep you from getting sick.

¹ Edna McQuesten, who is mentally fragile, is staying with Ruby in Ottawa during their mother's preparations for her trip to Winnipeg and the west (She left May 10 and stayed until June 14).
