W5850 TO [REV.] CALVIN MCQUESTEN from his mother, Mary Baker McQuesten
May 16 1907
To: Calvin McQuesten [Toronto, Ontario]
From: Oakville, Ontario

My dearest Calvin

It seems a long time since I wrote you but I was on the wing. I did not return here from Brantford & Hamilton till Friday afternoon and I was tired and Tom came home Saturday. Then I had to prepare the report of the meetings for my Auxiliary on Tuesday. When I went into the city it was extremely warm and I was greatly over-heated, and after having tea with Mrs. James came out to find it quite cold, so that when I reached Oakville my voice was gone. I am not ill at all but you can understand the trial for me not to be able to speak above a whisper. So to-day it seemed no use in my getting up. That is why I write in pencil and it is cold and windy outside. But we will hope for fine weather next week when you will be home. I hope you will do your utmost not to start away before the Monday, that is 27th. We are most comfortable with a delightful outlook, the only thing we need is fine weather, the one thing we dread is the East wind.

The latest news from Hamilton is the engagement of Rachel Gwynne to Canon Abbott. A very inconsistent choice for him. I am glad you are so far through your exams and am sure you will be alright.

Annie Fletcher's engagement to Price Montague was also announced. I really feel sorry to see Dr. Fletcher's name associated with Dr. Montague and Mrs. Montague, quite impossible but Mr. F. seems perfectly happy and quite oblivious to the relations. With much love.

Your loving mother

M.B. McQuesten

[P.S.] Do you need any money?
