Dearest Cal,

Glad to hear from you to-day. Received a letter from Tom on Thursday evening, which had been written the Sunday previous. He had got to Elk Lake the night before. He left Haileybury at 11 o'clock Saturday morning by rail for Charlton. Left there by sleigh about 3 o'clock and drove to a place called Hill's about 6 o'clock, had a substantial meal and started again reaching Elk Lake about 10 p.m. He found house where he expected to stay full, so had to go to the Matabamick but expects to get into the King Edward soon. Place very busy, as roads are only passable whilst there is sleighing, 75 teams a day going in, of machinery, etc. Gillies with his wife is living there in a shack, Dennison there too. Houses go up in a day. Plenty of wood to burn and the weather not too cold, as it is so dry, do not feel it. He enjoyed the drive through spruce woods, as his fur coat made him utterly impervious to the cold, "path just wide enough for team, with here & there a place for passing." Am sending the letter to Ruby, but think I have told you all.

Nellie Mullin's case is not a severe one, Mrs M. is quite cheered up. The last time before Tom could get his trunk taken, after waiting days, he had to telephone manager of express Co. Do your best to get them to send two men, it is so far up to Tom's room. Think Ruby's letter very encouraging. Mrs. Thompson and Mrs. Carter (Mrs. T.'s sister) had five o'clock tea with us. Mrs C.'s son at Varsity and thought much of you. He is coming to Osgoode. This is all at present, glad you will have this Sunday to rest. With much love from all.
