My dearest Calvin,

Once more your letter has not come to-day but suppose it will come Monday as last week. With regard to the farm proposition, Tom has been writing you though I do not know what he said, but to my mind the whole question lies in the point, if you can thoroughly trust the man who takes the land to be honest with you when you are absent.¹ You do not want the money, as I understand till next spring (1910) and you would not have the crop till 1911. It seems a good while to look ahead and yet if crops turned out well, it would be a good investment, if you have the right man. As to the money, I would be able to get it for you in some way at probably 5 per cent. Is there any one there who could advise you? As you seem to rely on Mr. G. I suppose he is known there to be trustworthy. Tom thought 1/3 rather small share.

Well, we have just been going on as usual had fearfully hot weather the beginning of the week, but rain came and it is more comfortable, we are particularly grateful for the rain, as one of the pumps has broken at the waterworks and street watering stopped and lawn sprinklers, and it is said will take a month to replace it and if anything should happen [to] one of the other pumps where would we be. This is what the Times has been pushing all the time to get the city to decide on the Power Co. so as to place increasing number of pumps at W.W.

Yesterday Mary went down by boat to Toronto. She went to see Annie Haigh who is nursing Mrs. Maclaren; she is getting better. M. also managed to bring home Tom's student's lamp, a very awkward thing, but we knew he would never manage it and didn't want him to lose it.

If you are quite satisfied as to the advisability of going into this venture, you had better go ahead, as you wish to speak for the men as soon as possible and this letter is a week later in answer than it should have been. With much love from all.
