W6683 TO REV. CALVIN MCQUESTEN, B.A. from his mother, Mary Baker McQuesten Jun 28 1911 Wednesday Evening [approximate date] To: Calvin McQuesten Staney Brae Muskoka From: 'Whitehern' My dear Calvin,
All my note paper is packed, so have only this pad to write you a few lines. We are nearly ready, to start off to-morrow morning, Edna and I. We have had busy day, Miss Honeycomb here for three days till yesterday & left many things to finish. So Hilda has been working like a slave all day and Mary very busy too getting us ready to go off. Yesterday was a fearful day, the heat just terrible and then a great thunder storm in the afternoon. Have been having some good rains lately. The poppies are out in the heat, with the foxgloves among them look so pretty; the larkspurs are lovely, the roses are done in the front; but the standard is very fine. Had a beautiful white rose too. Hilda had a call from Jennie Cook to-day much thinner than she used to be. Dr. Bell called on me to-day. He goes to Boston and Harvard next week, sailing from Boston on the Saturday. I wish I could send you off like that, but he says, he goes to work over there.
The Ketchens go to Bronte to-morrow. Gus Laing is called to Brownsville, I see by to-night's paper! Mary had a very busy time last week, getting in the provisions for S.S. pic-nic. And then Saturday morning she went down to the Bishop's Consecration and the pic-nic in the afternoon. It was a great success, fine day and god turn out.
Well, I must close. Hope you are feeling much stronger and cheered up. Annie Fletcher, we hear of at the races yesterday. With much love Cal dear.
Your loving mother
M.B. McQuesten
