W7003 TO MRS. MCQUESTEN FROM JANIE B. JAMES Dec 23 1919 To: Mrs. Mary Baker McQuesten From: Janie B. James Toronto 15 Woodlawn Ave

My dear Mrs. McQuesten
Your loving letter with the five dollar enclosure for Mother and me came yesterday and we are so grateful to you for your thought of us. As last year so this Mother's friends are most kind in remembering her birthday. She usually has an overwhelmed look that day. I will tell you what we got with your gift later. And may I ask you & will you please be perfectly frank about the gift Mother is sending to you. The silk stockings are from her box and she sends them with much love to you. We have just one fear and that is why we have to ask you to tell us if they are big enough. The foot is quite big for your dainty little foot, but is the silk part of the leg wide enough? Mother and I have not told the family what we are sending lest they prevent us. So please do be sure and say if they are not what you like. For you see we are doing as you asked us and not buying a gift. But we have something that is being kept for you in case the stockings are not extended by Providence for your Christmas gift. I am an awfully slow sower [sic] and (I had to spell it with an 'o' for it is used in a different sense with an 'e') and I had to sit up till the very small hours last night and it does not make things easier in the day. Mother and all of us are very well and we all write in love to you and wishes for a very happy Christmas and a New Year of blessing and gladness for you and all your home circle.
Again thanking you for your most generous gift.
I am affectionately yours
Janie B. James
