W7296 TO [REV.] CALVIN MCQUESTEN from Phyllis E. Fletcher

My dear Calvin,

Mrs. Irving does not feel yet that she can write, so I am trying to answer some of the very many letters that have come to her during those sad days. She appreciates your kind thoughtfulness very much Calvin, and you knew what a kind upright honourable and lovable man the dear doctor was -- His sudden death has made a sore blank here; but his work, in God's good plan near finished here, and what a work it was. The many mourners at his grave gave abundant testimony. What his work up yonder is, we shall know some day.

Mrs. Irving and Katie are wonderfully brave, and though not at all well, they are facing the unknown future courageously knowing that the kind heavenly father is gently leading. Colin came over for his wife on Sabbath evening & they left yesterday -- Annie & I are here, and we are all going over to the Manse next week. I think the little change will do them great good. It seems so strange without the doctor, and so hard to realize that we do not hear the well known step running up the walk.

A Dr. Hottram of Leaforth has bought the Dr's practice. I hope he is a good man but there are not many like the one who has gone. With kindest regards and thanks from Mrs. Irving and Katie and with every good wish for yourself that your young life may be filled with helpful usefulness as I know you are trying to make it. Believe me, dear Calvin.

Your sincere friend

Phyllis E. Fletcher
