My dear Calvin,
You will surely think me an ungrateful wretch for not acknowledging the receipt of your photograph before this. I certainly appreciated it very fully and must thank you now -- when I get back to something like settled life I must see if I have one for you in return.
I am not going to try making excuses but only say that I am now loafing under Doctor's order and have been throwing off as much sense of responsibility as possible; hence my neglect of correspondence.
I came here last week to attend the annual Confer. of the Intern'l. Miss'y Union, and more particularly to take advantage of the treatment offered here free to all Miss'ys and Ministers. I hope I may be able to stay for a couple of weeks longer and get a good rest now that the meetings are off.
I have been obliged to forgo my plans of studying in Winnipeg this summer and am planning to rusticate and vegetate as much as possible. I did not know that I was working beyond my strength but evidently I have been, and India is no place for a man to go who is broken down in health.
I trust this may find you well -- kindly give my best respects to those you may see of my Montreal friends.
This is a splendid place for one who is not well. I am boarding out in town and taking the treatment here in the "San" every day.
I am, yours faithfully,
