Dear McQuesten,

After all your kindness, I was sorry to leave Montreal without seeing you to say good-bye. Monday was a busy day with my packing & I found I was unable to get down to the Y.M.C.A. as I had promised. When I did got there later in the evening the message you kindly left for me was given me. Thank you so much for all you have done.

We did not reach Toronto till about 8.30 pm, our train was delayed for a long time at Brockville owing to an accident to a freight train somewhere ahead of us. Wednesday, Thursday & yesterday I was busy hunting for rooms, not an easy matter. I have a temporary room at the address which heads my letter. You will know the street. I expect to be here over Christmas & then to remove to Czar St.

I have not yet called on any of the friends you have told me of, but hope to call next week, & tomorrow morning think of going to the Central Church so I may meet Mr. F Anderson there. Mrs. Fawcett insisted me to remember her to you & Mrs. Jarman was very pleased to have news of you. They were not able to take me in, though if I had gone to Mrs. Jarman's a day earlier than I did, she could have given me a room.

We are having cold weather & today there has been a rather heavy fall of snow, there was very little on the ground when I came. My first impressions of Toronto are not as good as those I gained of Montreal, but it is too soon to express an opinion. In every state of youth, one has much to learn & my experience of Toronto is young. The map you gave me has proved very useful. I shall be glad if you will let me know to which of your friends you wrote about my coming here. You mentioned Mr. Anderson I remember. I shall send you my address when I hear from him & I hope some day to meet you in this city "of happy memories." I trust you are feeling quite well again.

P.S. I was at the Central Church yesterday morning, but the Dr. was not the preacher. I was shown into a pew in front of Mr. David Gibson. He recognized me & after the service spoke to me & very kindly took me home to dinner, where I met his father, mother & brother. Mr. Gibson asked me to come to the S. School in the afternoon & I was there for the closing & spoke a few words to the scholars. There I met your friend Mr. Gordon, who told me you had written him about me. I also met Miss Glover who was glad to hear of you. In the evening I went to St. James Sq. & heard Mr. Gardiner. I have called on Mr. Gartshore. Hope some evening soon to meet his family. F.T.
