I received yours in due season and was pleased to learn that you got the V all O.K.,¹ and that you would write Mrs. McR. Also I was glad to learn of your intention to come West again this summer. I thought you might care to know that the field south of here has been divided into two parts. Tait, of course, takes the Rathwell-Standoff end. You are likely aware that he and Miss Eva Gardiner are dead in love. Well, I did not intend to gossip. What I thought was that you might like to take the Fishburn end of the field, and I am writing you this to let you know of the division, supposing, of course you did not already know. There are a lot of people here who would like to see you again. Old Tait is as popular as ever with everybody, I think.

By the way, I was talking with the manager of the Commerce to-day, and he tells me that our old friend D.L. has to unload some of his property this spring or go down. The bank will force him to sell his back place, at least, this spring. Poor Dave, I fear, is about all in, and one can't help feeling sorry, though I suppose he is the one he should blame.

Well, as I am such a slow man on this machine,² I think I shall ring off. So by-bye, and good luck to you in your examinations. I sincerely hope your health may not interfere with the extra grind, or rather, that the extra work may not conflict with your health.

¹ This appears to be Mr. Day's way of asking Calvin whether or not he had received his money from the Home Mission Board. The payment to Calvin had been delayed because of miscommunication. See W7652 and W7707.
