My dear Mother,

Your letter came today and I am glad to hear that Ruby is gradually on the mend again. We had a little rain here, not very much but it has been nice and cool for several days now. We had no thunder however.

Last evening I had dinner with Mrs. Bell, a very good dinner too.

I was arranging for my holidays yesterday with Mr. Chisholm. I think I shall take the first two weeks in August and will come up to Gravenhurst then. Will this suit you all right?

The grass is fine and green and our garden, the best in the city and the hollyhocks in the front are very effective, people stop to look at them.

On Sunday we had the Rev. John Ross D.D. of Port Dalhousie. The old St. Paul's Church land and was sold to them and Drummond exchanged to open it. He was quite a cultivated man I thought and a very good preacher.

Have you been sending the Times about the Public Library plans. The Times has been the oldest of all the papers. They have let Dr. Lyle down rarely. I am thoroughly ashamed of him, and have quite lost any lingering respect for him I had. He is just an old grafter. He actually voted in favour of a motion to give his son Jack a second prize of $300.00, when his plans had not even recommended by the Buffalo and New York architects engaged. He had previously voted differently and when Harry Lovering seconded he said "well they tried to knife my son Jack," fine that for a minister of the Gospel. This was after he had finished denouncing some worthy as a liar and a fool. He is a disgrace to the Presbyterian Church as the sometime Moderator. Well must close.
