My dearest Calvin,

Just received letter and samples. The carpet I have bought for library will be lovely with the paper. When we bought it you reckoned you would need to paint a foot all round. Cannot tell the exact size [of rug?] have forgotten it, but that was what we reckoned when we bought it. You see I went by the measurements you gave us of the rooms. I do not think there is any use in sending colour of paint for living room, as we have the carpet now and could not change and also the curtains. If the Moravian rug does not go with paint we will just have to paint living-room ourselves. You had better get the oil-cloth and linoleum there, and have upper hall floor painted. Glad they are painting all the stair [sic]. H. does not want a carpet. If we change our minds afterwards we might get a narrow carpet for stairs and [?] along middle of upper hall.

It is such a happy thing that you have fallen amongst such nice people and being so near Toronto they are quite up in everything it seems for papers are very [?] and will look well I am sure. We mean to get Madras curtains for library and dining-room, think these prettier and will use Uncle's for living-room and bed-rooms. Yesterday saw Mrs. Irving at Mrs. Ketchen's. It is just a very good thing you were not sent there. There are only 4001 people in St. Mary's, they are always expecting the ministers to fill the churches (How can they amongst so many). They are now grumbling about Miller because he does not. It was a merciful [?] that saved you from that place. Must close, with much love.
